HAMSA, literally meaning five, is an ancient palm-shaped amulet symbolizing the Hand of God. In all faiths it is a protective sign. It brings its owner happiness, luck, health, joy and good fortune. Depicting the open right hand, the HJAMSA is believed to provide defense against the evil eye. Early use of the the HAMSA has been traced to ancient Mesopotamia.
